Portfolio Artist Statment
My artwork is for my Into to Visual Arts class. We use all different types of medium, and this piece focused on line designs. It is a face blooming into flowers, and title of my work is Flower Girl. The most obvious element in my work is lines and different types of flowers. I used sharpies to do my portfolio, and sketched my artwork before I traced over it with the black markers. A picture that I found online inspired my artwork, and it was especially what gave me the idea for the minimalist face. My art does not express a social issue, but I suppose you could compare it to whatever you want. The emotion I tried to express was the face’s brain, or them as a person, growing and blooming. My goals as an artist are to try new things and styles, and love the pieces that I do. My goals were definitely reached through this piece, because I have never made something this style and I really like it! Making my portfolio, I learned that proportions are a lot harder than they look, and it is very difficult to just look at something, especially a face, and draw it just like that. The final piece is different from what I imagined because I changed my mind a few times, but I ended up really liking how it turned out. This will influence my future artwork because now I know that I can do pieces with this sort of minimalist style and some thinner lines, and I am interested in doing more!
