Ceramics Bowl Artist Statement

Ceramics Bowl Artist Statement

I made this bowl for my Introduction to Visual Arts class. My artwork is a blush bowl with a flower design inside. The title is “Consider it Joy,” as that is what’s written inside the bowl. The most obvious element is clay and glaze. I formed the bowl using slabs, used stencils for the design, and used glaze to make it look pretty. I made this bowl for my sister and it has a quote from on of her favorite bible verses on the inside, James 1:2. This helped me reach a goal as an artist because I had never made bowl like this before. I learned that you need to keep your clay wet so that it doesn’t dry out and crack while you are trying to put it together. I think I have more knowledge on how to use clay slabs, and I can use that in the future. I liked making this piece because because not everything had to be perfect, and I could experiment with different ways of glazing or smoothing out my bowl.
